AllThingsD founders Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher unveiled a new tech news site called Re/code on Thursday, marking their first independent push after their split from Dow Jones.

The digital journalists also announced a new independent media company called Revere Digital that will umbrella Re/code, with Swisher and Mossberg serving as co-CEOs.

Revere Digital, which has received backing from Comcast’s (CMCSA) NBCUniversal and former Yahoo (YHOO) boss Terry Semel’s Windsor Media, will build on the AllThingsD brand, including its revered industry conferences.

The company will debut The Code Conference in Los Angeles in May, bringing together some of the biggest innovators to discuss the impact of digital technology. It says additional digital products and conferences are also planned.

“Because everything in tech and media is constantly being rethought, refreshed, and renewed, Re/code’s aim is to reimagine tech journalism,” the co-chiefs said in a posting on their new site.

AllThingsD parted with Dow Jones, owned by News Corp. (NWSA), when their contract expired at the end of 2013.
