The U.S. has joined with German and Russian officials to investigate whether Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) paid millions in bribes to secure a contract in Russia, the Wall Street Journal is reporting.

The investigation over Hewlett-Packard's alleged violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act centers on accusations that H-P paid $10.9 million in bribes to win a contract to computer gear through a German subsidiary to the office of the prosecutor general of the Russian Federation, the Journal reported.

A spokesman for H-P told the Journal that the company had discussed the probe with the SEC Thursday.

As part of the investigation, Russian authorities raided H-P offices in Moscow Wednesday.

Shares of H-P were off 29 cents to $54.23 Thursday.
