Royal Caribbean Promotes Company Veteran Goldstein to COO

Royal Caribbean (RCL) promoted company veteran Adam Goldstein to chief operating officer on Monday. He will work directly with chief executive Richard Fain on the company’s strategic vision.

Goldstein, a 25-year veteran of Royal Caribbean, most recently served for 12 years as chief executive of Royal Caribbean International, the company’s largest cruise line.

In his new role, he’ll oversee a host of corporate functions, including human resources, IT, corporate communications and port operations.

"Adam has played a key role in growing Royal Caribbean International, step by step, into a global leader," Fain said in a statement. “Today's announcement underscores the strength and stability of our company and its depth of leadership talent."

Goldstein begins his new responsibilities immediately but will continue to assist the international line throughout the transition, Fain said. A search for a new leader is underway.

The new COO joined the company in 1988 and served in a number of positions before taking the helm of Royal Caribbean International, including senior vice president of total guest satisfaction, SVP of marketing and corporate secretary to the company's board of directors.

Shares of Royal Caribbean fell 1.8% to $53.55 in recent trade. They are up 66% over the last 12 months.
