Ford Revs Up Hiring Plans With Social Media; Panera 2Q Earnings Weigh on Shares

Disappointing second-quarter earnings are taking a toll on Panera Bread (NASDAQ:PNRA) stock. Investors reacted negatively to a lower earnings per share target for 2013, which reflected lower-than-expected growth in company-owned comparable net bakery and cafe sales.

Ford (NYSE:F) is revving up its hiring plans and is using social media to find the best candidates in a sign the automaker is hunting for tech-savvy millennials, a large majority of whom hunt for jobs on social networking sites like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Ford  plans to add 3,000 employees, mainly in Michigan, which is 800 more than previously expected.

Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX) is entering the yogurt business. The coffee chain giant is teaming up with Danone to create yogurt products for the Starbucks-owned Evolution brand. "Evolution fresh, inspired by Dannon," will be available at Starbucks next year and at major grocery stores in 2015.
