FCC to Cut Down on Indecency Complaints

The Federal Communications Commission is scaling back on indecency charges.

Following a series of unfavorable court rulings for the FCC, the agency announced it’s taking a closer look at its indecency enforcement policy in an effort to ensure “the agency carries out Congress’s directive in a manner consistent with vital First Amendment principles.”

The FCC’s decision comes on the heels of the Department of Justice’s decision to drop a lawsuit which complained of pixilated nudity in a 2003 episode of Fox’s reality show “Married by America.” The commission said rather than going after a broad swath of indecency cases, it plans to refocus resources on cases involving only the most egregious indecency violations. It says the new action will help reduce the pile of nearly 1.5 million pending indecency complaints.

FOX is owned by News Corp. (NASDAQ:NWSA), which also owns FOXBusiness.com.
