A U.S. Senate panel on Tuesday voted 21 to 1 in favor of Mary Jo White to lead the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, moving her nomination to the full Senate for consideration.

The Senate Banking Committee also approved on a party-line vote Richard Cordray's nomination to be director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Cordray has been serving as director on an interim basis.
